On Saturday, November 16, 2013 Klehm hosted the yearly volunteer brunch to show appreciation to the numerous dedicated volunteers who spend countless hours contributing to Klehm’s success.  We are grateful for the tremendous volunteer effort it takes to maintain our living museum and always welcome new volunteers to help us keep Klehm beautiful and thriving. Thanks to ABC Catering for providing the meal, Beautiful Day Linens for providing the tablecloths and Broadway Florist for creating the centerpieces.

Every year Klehm recognizes three outstanding volunteers for their efforts. Their names will be added to the plaques hanging in the Visitors Center.
President’s Award  – Dave Hinde

Dave is a long-time supporter of Klehm, contributing in a variety of ways over the years.  He is an integral member of the Tuesday Morning Guys, who come week after week to help keep the grounds looking great, as well as serving on the Collections Committee.  He was also the driving force behind Klehm’s Rhododendron and Azalea Dell and has conducted lectures and tours about the more than 80 species it currently houses.

Above & Beyond Award – Mary Jo Shickles

Besides lending a hand at nearly every Klehm event this year, Mary Jo was single-handedly responsible for providing a record 2078 pounds of vegetables to the Rock River Food Pantry in 2013 through her efforts in Klehm’s Plant A Row Garden.

Seedling Award – Sue Flemming

Sue had an immediate impact as a volunteer from the very first day she visited Klehm and asked how she could help.  She is the first call we make when we need an extra hand.  Her enthusiasm for Klehm and willingness to do whatever it takes has made her an invaluable addition to the Klehm family.
