Budding Ecologists 2024

June 13 & 27

July 11 & 25

August 8 & 22

Our brand-new Budding Ecologists program will be a great way to keep your nature-loving kids outside this summer while learning what it’s like to be an ecologist!

The first hour will be a lesson and activity about the themes above and the second hour will be out adventuring on our 155-acre campus to explore the topics we covered with hands-on activities. We will make crafts, play predator prey games, do experiments, and much more.

Even though the theme will stay the same per month, each class is a different lesson so you can sign up for all the classes, some, or just one!

Habitats (June 13th and 27th):

Our exhibit at Klehm this summer is the Smithsonian’s Habitats, which explores the stories and science of habitats and the plants, animals, and humans that call them home. In these classes, we will learn about various animal habitats in each class and identify animal homes here at Klehm!

Illinois Mammals (July 11th and 25th):

We see mammals every day here at Klehm such as squirrels or chipmunks but, in these classes, we will learn about the more elusive Illinois mammals as well such as red foxes and bats. Classes will also adventure into the arboretum to investigate clues of mammals such as tracks or scat.

Trees (August 8th and 22nd):

Klehm has many unique and important trees that foster relationships with wildlife, fungi, and humans. In these classes, we will explore the relationship trees have with the ecosystem around us and check out some of the fascinating species we have here!
